Soldiers of the Cross
music and lyrics by David Berry
A healer comes to his temple
Armed with wisdom he will try
To ease a troubled, frightened heart
Renew a lease on life
But a shadow lurks behind him
And before he turns around
The fabric of his hopes and dreams
Lies shredded on the ground.
Self-loathing surrounds them;
Putting out the sun.
Where only hate and wild dreams
Drive the lives of some.
While cowards who in God’s name
Crush the knowledge they have found
Where knowing is lost innocence,
Buried in the ground.
As the Soldiers of the Cross
Fight the battles they have lost
And believe that their lies
Are protected by God
But a true love of life
Is something they’ll never own
Minds are wasted;
Hearts are stone.
The holy man holds up his hands
And prays for "unborn" life
His acolytes, they never feel
Shame of any kind
And the rage and fear that swallows him
And makes them so depraved
Watch as these holy martyrs die
They’ll drag us all to their graves.
And the Soldiers of the Cross
Fight the battles they have lost
And believe that their lies
Are protected by God
But a true love of life
Is something they’ll never own
Minds are wasted;
Hearts are stone.
To be living in this moment,
to embrace the lives we lead,
Where bravery and greatness ring
with proud solemnity,
Reason’s light in fragile minds
fades and drifts away.
Those "Lambs of God" march off to kill
armed with the final say.
So the Soldiers of the Cross
Win the battle they have lost!
