Touch the Divine

Music and lyrics by David Berry

I fear being superficial.
I look and look,
And I look again.
It’s so easy to look right past you.

But this big revelation,
This profound little wisdom,
Only comes at quiet times.

I fear being unseen.
I give and give,
Still I try again.
It’s so easy to see right through me.

But this sad situation,
This feeble stab at freedom,
Wasn’t part of my design.

Deeper and deeper,
And softer and sweeter,
Where I can’t tell yours from mine,
When I reach deep enough I can Touch the Divine.

I fear the vision of my passing.
I’ll sleep, and I’ll sleep,
Maybe dream but not wake.
I just hope to remain in some memory.

But there’s little consolation,
No proof of my love
Except what I’ve done for your sake.

Deeper and deeper,
And softer and sweeter,
When you can’t tell yours from mine.
If you feel deep enough you can Touch the Divine.

Deeper and deeper,
And softer and sweeter,
Where you can’t tell yours from mine.
If we see far enough we can Touch the Divine.
